MCA 1964-2012
Words can barely express how devastated we all are at the news that the Beastie Boys‘ Adam “MCA” Yauch lost his battle with cancer this past Friday. From his role as a music innovator with a career spanning 3 decades, a social activist, a video/movie director, and an all around cool guy, we’ve all been inspired by his time here on this planet.
Wheels are just starting to turn on what we can do as a tribute event, but just as a start, here’s some of the great music that the Beastie Boys turned us on to via samples:
“I’m Chief Kamanawanalea” – The Turtles
as heard in: “Jimmy James”
“Put On Train” – Gene Harris & the Three Sounds
as heard in: “What Comes Around”
“Last Bongo in Belgium” – Michael Viner’s Incredible Bongo Band
as heard in: “Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun”
“Root Down (and Get It)” – Jimmy Smith
as heard in: “Root Down”
“Freaks for the Festival” – Rahsaan Roland Kirk
as heard in: Finger Lickin’ Good

[...] previously mentioned, we’re huge Beastie Boys fans and greatly saddened by the passing of Adam “MCA” [...]
