Who You Telling Lies To?

24 04 2013

We’ve got a new video teaser for “Howl” while we work on the “Rouse Yourself” video.

Feast your eyes on “Ordinary”, starring Traeveon Howard, with a guest appearance by 2012 Air Guitar World Champion, Justin “Nordic Thunder” Howard

Excited yet?

But seriously, we still totally need your help making the “Rouse Yourself” video.
Pretty please?

We Need Your Help to Make a Video

15 04 2013
We’re really excited about the new album, Howl (out May 21 on Bloodshot Records). To get it out to the world, we’ve concocted an awesome music video for “Rouse Yourself”, the first single, to give the album some exposure and get the JCBUS message out to the people.  Please take a minute to watch our Pledge video, and if you’re able to – help support the band to make this video.  Let’s make 2013 OUR year.  Post-punk soul fans unite!

The video will be shot in Los Angeles on April 27th, and in Chicago around May 7th.  The video will feature JC and the band with a surprise LA celebrity guest, triggering a stunning turn of events.

We need to shoot the video in Los Angeles and Chicago to accommodate our celebrity guests who are donating their time to be in the video. The shoot, editing, and locations require funds that we don’t have at the moment, so we’re offering up some very nice pledge treats for those who contribute!

Thanks y’all!

Day by Day – #PurpleWednesday

3 04 2013

Back when BT had a day job and time to kill, he’d go on YouTube/Twitter jags…..

After reading the 50th issue of Wax Poetics, I was all hopped up on TACKAP so I started posting some of my fave clips and tagging it #PurpleWednesday, but no one ever pointed out that it was actually Tuesday.  But hey, Skipper is just that FAR AHEAD of the rest of us.

End of the Year/World

It’s already late November and the band leaves for Montreal this Friday.  We toured pretty steadily from March through October, and we’ve now been home for a solid month, working on new material, and successfully blew out the Metro the night before Thanksgiving (still waiting for some pics and video to post, JC did a bang up job on the backdrop projections).

Yeah, we said we’re leaving for Montreal.  Read the rest of this entry »

Leave DC Wanting More

25 10 2012

Last Saturday, we had the incredible pleasure of playing a new club in Washington, DC called Tropicalia (nothing against our home away from home in the District, the Black Cat, but they were booked).  Gabe Silverman was there for  Washington Post to interview JC and film the set, which turned out pretty well for a feature on the club.

It was a hot set, the 2nd to last show of a solid year of touring behind “Want More”, our 4th DC show in the last 18 months, and what will go down in the books as the first show of the Electric Handclap era, thanks to Jeff Galusha and his Tama TS-204 Electronic Drum Module.

Thanks to Brian & Jim at Tropicalia, DJ Baby Alcatraz for spinning the hot jams, and Jeff Galusha for being #1 Tambo Man.

Time for Livin’

10 07 2012

Poster by Scott Williams, http://scottwilliamsdesign.com/

As previously mentioned, we’re huge Beastie Boys fans and greatly saddened by the passing of Adam “MCA” Yauch, so I helped organize a a big Chicago all-star tribute at Lincoln Hall on July 2.

RIP MCA

7 05 2012

MCA 1964-2012

Words can barely express how devastated we all are at the news that the Beastie Boys‘ Adam “MCA” Yauch lost his battle with cancer this past Friday.  From his role as a music innovator with a career spanning 3 decades, a social activist, a video/movie director, and an all around cool guy, we’ve all been inspired by his time here on this planet.

Now It Can Be Told

17 04 2012

It was a rainy night in February when we took over a few rooms at the Ohio House in Chicago to shoot the “Sister Ray Charles” video.

Our original plan to film at the Tokyo Hotel (by all accounts, a wonderfully seedy place to set the action) fell through, and we had to scramble to find another suitable location at the last minute.  Billy called in some of his Second City pals (including Greg Hollimon from Strangers With Candy), our old friend Roper was there to help shoot video, and Noah Ginex brought Fernando to the party.  The rest of us then had about 8 hours to kill while the grown-ups filmed in the other room.  Did we mention that it was Kevin’s birthday and his present was a bottle of Jameson?  Photos by BT

It was tough sitting on these photos, since a good time was had by all, but we didn’t want to give away too much of the video (y’know, puppets, prostitution, swingin’ cops, etc.)  And luckily we made some friends over at Google during SXSW and they were nice enough to debut the video for us last week.

My Light Shines All Night

11 04 2012

from Subterranean on a Tuesday night to Lollapalooza in the park in only 5 years

We’ve only been home four days and the constant flow of crazy continues on unabated.  After being leaked by every media outlet in town, Lollapalooza finally announced their 2012 line-up, and we’re on it.  Along with a remarkably awesome roster of  headliners, like Black Sabbath, Jack White, At the Drive-In, plus the Shins, JJ Grey & Mofro, Alabama Shakes, etc.  This is gonna be fun.  Get your tickets here. (We’ll announce what day we’re playing in June).  Oh yeah!  And f’n TUNE YARDS!

That announcement just barely trumps the release of our new video for “Sister Ray Charles”.  Thanks to Google Play for debuting that for us, they’ve been real good to us ever since that tequila bender in Austin.  More on that soon.

Day by Day: #rocksteadywednesday

31 01 2012

Day by Day – an on-going look back at when BT had time at his day job to select and post his favorite thematically-linked YouTube videos. August 17, 2011 was Rocksteady Wednesday.

1. The Marvels – Rock Steady

Pretty perfect idea to cover Aretha’s “Rock Steady” in a rocksteady style, but it made it pretty tough to Google. I saw DJ Logic drop this in a set opening for MMW in Boston and it took me years to find out who the artist was. Now all we need is a reggae version of “Boogie On Reggae Woman”.
