I Am Trying To Be Your Mayor

20 01 2011

A nice jolt to a so far bleak January, last week Uptown HQ received an invitation for the band to play a very special show with Wilco‘s Jeff Tweedy at the Park West in Chicago next week. Tweedy + JC Brooks + Park West = bonkers, but even crazier is that the show is a fundraiser for Rahm Emanuel‘s mayoral campaign. THIS JUST IN: Rabbit Factory DJ John Ciba (from the East of Edens Soul Express) just got added to the bill.

It was during our run-up to the Eccentric Soul Revue at the very same venue in April 2009 that we came up with the crazy idea of covering Wilco’s “I Am Trying To Break Your Heart”, so it seems like a good time and place to see what the man himself thinks finally. Of course, I always thought it was bad form to play a cover of an artist that you’re opening for, so we’ll have to figure that one out.

The Emanuel campaign officially announced the show yesterday, and then Rahm was shaking hands at the Belmont Blue Line station this morning, I wish I’d brought Kevin’s baby for him to kiss. And for those asking, no, he didn’t swear at me.

Word on the street is that Rahm’s got a pretty good sense of humor about the SNL bits, and Andy Samberg’s hosting another fundraiser in town (I guess Andy values the use of both his legs).

In other crazy/exciting news today, the Dismemberment Plan kicks off their reunion tour by playing on Jimmy Fallon tonight.

Welcome back fellas, you’ve been missed.
